Arsenal have opened talks to sign FC Porto midfielder Juan Quintero for £15.8million, Daily Mail reports.
The Colombian’s agent Maria Elena Chavarro took to Twitter on Thursday and posted – in Spanish – that her client is on his way to London to sign a contract.
“Today @juanferquinte10 travelled to England to sign a contract with Arsenal who are paying 20m Euros (around £15.8m) to FCPorto, congratulations!” the tweet said.
The move has therefore raised concerns over Santi Cazorla’s future at the club, who is being targeted by La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
According to reports from Colombia, Quintero flew to Bogota from Medellin before boarding a plane to London’s Heathrow airport.
The 21-year-old was part of Colombia’s World Cup squad that reached the quarter-finals, only losing out to host nation Brazil.
Quintero had previously caught the eye of former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand last year, when the defender was watching the U20 World Cup.
“I watched the Under 20 World Cup and there was a kid called (Juan) Quintero playing for Colombia,” Ferdinand stated.
“The way he receives the ball, you don’t really see young players in our country doing that.”
