Newcastle defender Danny Simpson is recovering fine after a fight on Sunday morning left him bleeding and unconscious in the street.
Simpson was out celebrating the Chelsea win in a club in Manchester. He left the club in the early hours to get some food and got into an altercation with a man in the queue, Simpson apparently then tried to get in a taxi when he was ‘punched to the floor’. A source close to the incident said
‘Him and this guy started getting aggressive with each other, they started scuffling. The man was pushing and shoving Danny and he just lost it, he punched him and he dropped to the ground.’
‘He was in a bad way, it looked like he was knocked out’
Simpson was laying in the road covered in blood and surrounded by people taking photos. Someone put Simpson in the recovery position and an ambulance turned up 15 minutes later and took him to hospital.
The defender who is due to leave Newcastle at the end of the season Tweeted on Sunday morning “For the record I’m okay, 2 on 1 well done!” and then later tweeted that he was spending Sunday with his little girl.
No further police action was taken and Newcastle has refrained from commenting on the incident.
