Liverpool star Daniel Agger has begged manager Brendan Rodgers to let him leave the club this summer, Mirror reports.
The want-away defender has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, and seems to have gotten his wish after a tearful talk with boss Rodgers during their pre-season tour in the USA.
Agger, Liverpool’s vice-captain, requested to be put up for sale and is now set to leave the club with La Liga giants Barcelona favourite to sign the centre-back.
The Dane made only 23 appearances for the Reds last season, and believes that competition for regular playing time is too fierce with the likes of Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho, and Martin Skrtel all vying for a starting berth.
The proposed £12million transfer of Agger to the Nou Camp would open the door for Manchester United to land Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, who prefers to stay in the Premier League.
Agger made 232 appearances during nine years with the Merseyside club, scoring 14 goals.
