Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has rubbished rumours that manager Thomas Tuchel could replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

Uncertainty remains over the Frenchman's long-term position at the Emirates, with just a matter of months left on his current contract.

Plenty of Arsenal fans are keen for Wenger to step down due to the club's failure to mount a serious title challenge over the past few seasons.

It has been almost 13 years since the North London outfit lifted the coveted trophy, and continually finishing in the top four does not seem to cut it for a lot of supporters.

Tuchel, who became Dortmund boss following Jurgen Klopp's exit in 2015, has been touted as the potential successor to Wenger.

The 43-year-old led the team to a second-place finish behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season, but they have struggled for consistency in the current campaign and sit fourth in the standings.

Dortmund's hierarchy have dismissed suggestions that their manager could be on his way to the Emirates.

The Sun quotes Watzke as saying:

“It is a fact that nobody from Arsenal called us. We’re taking about completely fictional stuff here. Some day in May we will sit down and analyse this season. He is still under contract here for another year. That's why I don't understand all the speculation."
