Everton boss Roberto Martinez is prepared to break the bank in order to keep midfielder Gareth Barry at Goodison Park permanently, according to the Daily Mirror.

Barry has been in fine form for Everton this season since joining on loan from Manchester City for the season, and many feel he was harshly overlooked for a spot in the England squad named earlier this week.

The 33 year old is keen on a switch to Merseyside as he has returned to his top form that saw City battle hard with Liverpool to sign the £12million playmaker back in 2009.

Everton are preparing to offer a three year deal worth £50,000 a week to their new main man who is out of contract at the Etihad in the summer.

Barry is likely to wait for other offers to come his way before deciding on his future, but taking a pay cut to join Everton is the most likely outcome at present and Martinez is desperate for that to happen.
