Everton defender Sylvain Distin is hoping to sign a new deal at Goodison Park in the near future to commit himself to the Toffees, as reported by Sky Sports.

Distin is still a key player for Roberto Martinez and despite the fact his contract is running out in just over six months’ time, the Frenchman wants to stay at the club for many years to come.

The experienced 35 year old is set to start at the Emirates today as Everton look to close the gap on the top four after impressive start to the season.

Distin believes the club still want him to stay and hopes to be playing in Europe next season for the Toffees.

"My contract is up at the end of the season, there is nothing more. I want to stay," Distin told the Daily Star.

"It seems like the club wants me to stay so I am sure we will find a solution."

"We do start to believe it's possible to finish in the top four now.

"Honestly, we've always thought it is possible. I don't think we've ever started a season since I've been here where we have thought it's okay to finish, fifth, sixth or seventh.
