Manchester United are keeping tabs on young Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland, who is currently on-loan at Cheltenham, according to Mirror Football.

The 19-year-old has represented England in all levels up to the under-21 side, and has received rave reviews for stellar performances for the League Two club.

This is the second temporary spell at the Whaddon Road club, as the stopper has yet to make a first-team appearance for the St Andrews outfit.

It is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson sent goalkeeping coach Eric Steele to watch Butland in Cheltenham's recent game against Rotherham, with a summer bid in mind.

Butland has already been monitored by Arsenal and a number of other Premier League clubs, so could well be in demand once the transfer window reopens.

With David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard fighting it out for the number one jersey at Old Trafford, the acquisition of Butland could well add competition for places and depth in the Premier League champions’ squad.

It is thought that Birmingham would be willing to sell their young starlet, as they look to balance the books.
