Joe Cole is set to join Paul Lambert at Aston Villa on a free transfer after being released by former club West Ham United, Mirror reports.
The former Chelsea midfielder recently completed his medical and will get a decreased salary in order to join the squad.
West Ham released Cole after the English player made only 13 starts for the side last season due to a variety of injury concerns but Lambert is believed to be willing to take the risk.
The Villa manager thinks his new addition could add a much needed boost of experience and creativity in his midfield and could also aid the club financially due to the exclusion of a transfer fee.
With owner Randy Lemer putting the club up for sale, the staff will need to be working with a very strict budget with the inclusion of free signings and loans in order to cope with the situation.
The squad have already been boosted by the arrival of former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos on free switch, with the Swiss star coming from Fulham after a loan spell at Valencia.
