Keiran Gibbs believes Alexis Sanchez is exactly the type of player Arsenal need in order to challenge for major honours this season, reports the Daily Star.
The Chile international moved to Arsenal last month, ahead of the likes of Juventus and Premier League rivals Liverpool, and Gibbs is delighted to have him on board.
He said: “It certainly builds your confidence seeing the likes of of Oziland Sanchez coming in.
“When players like them come in, it is only going to make you feel good.
“You look at Mesut last year, he didn’t come in with an arrogance about him. He came in like he still had something to prove, like he wasn’t already a world class player.
“Alexis has got that same mentality. He is like an animal in training. That is what we need, we can’t just sign a superstar and say ‘ok we are going to win everything’.
“In training he is just everywhere. He doesn’t stop running. He goes at you.
“You always worry about players coming in and adapting, but to be honest I don’t see him struggling. I feel he’s going to come in.
“You can see he is a tough guy. Who knows, you look at what other players do but hopefully he will take it all in his stride.
“It is not the best day in training when you going up against some like Alexis. He is a top player and he is definitely going to bring something extra for us.
“Alexis has come in firing and is the sort of talisman who can take us to another level and compete with the Manchester clubs.”
