Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen believes that Alan Pardew is lucky not to have been sacked by Newcastle for his actions yesterday, as reported by the Metro.

Pardew headbutted Hull midfielder David Meyler during a touchline altercation that took the gloss from Newcastle’s fine victory at the KC Stadium.

Newcastle issued a statement last night confirming that Pardew had been given a formal warning over his conduct and been slapped with a £100,000 fine.

Hansen however feels that the punishment could have been a lot worse for the Toon boss with the club having the right to sack their manager for such behaviour.

‘The only ones who can sack him are Newcastle and they’ve taken the view to give him a massive fine and warn him,’ Hansen said.

‘He’s a lucky, lucky man. I don’t know what he was doing getting involved in the first place.’

Pardew is still yet to hear from the FA over a charge that could result in another fine and a hefty touchline ban.
