Hull are close to agreeing a deal for Palermo’s Uruguayan international striker Abel Hernandez, according to reports from Goal.

It’s understood that negotiations with the Serie A side are at an advanced stage, with the Tigers willing to pay £9.5m for the player who has been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in recent years.

Steve Bruce was chasing Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes, but the Championship side’s reluctance to do business has forced him to look elsewhere as he attempts to get a replacement in for Shane Long – who joined Southampton in a £12m deal – before the transfer deadline passes.

Hernandez has long been thought of as one of Italian football’s top young goal-getters, with his 14 goals last term helping Palermo to secure promotion from the second tier.

He’s due to arrive on Humberside soon, where a medical will take place before a four-year deal is signed.

Hernandez represented his home country at the World Cup earlier this summer, as they pipped England to qualification from Group D.
