John Terry says he hopes to discuss a new contract with Chelsea at the end of the season ahead of his current deal expiring next year.

The former England international made just his third start of the year for the Blues in the 3-0 win over Fulham in midweek, scoring twice in the west London derby.

The 32-year-old has seen his opportunities in the Chelsea first team limited since he returned from a knee injury, with manager Rafael Benitez preferring to go with the younger options in his squad.

As a result of Terry's limited game time, speculation has suggested the centre-half could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge as part of owner Roman Abramovich's plan to replace the old guard.

Terry says he hasn't discussed a new contract with Chelsea but is remaining calm over where his future lies.

"It's not an ideal situation for me but, at the same time, I understand that if other players are playing well around me, I keep my head," he told Sky Sports News.

"People have to realise that I've got a year left at Chelsea after this. People have spoken about no new contract and this kind of thing, but it's not even on the agenda at the moment.

"They may sit down with me once the season has finished and we'll start talking then. Whether it's a yes or a no I'll continue to give my very best until my contract finishes at Chelsea."
