Jurgen Klopp believes that he can help shape Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard into the “best manager he can be”.

The fan favourite recently returned to Anfield as an academy coach after retiring from professional football.

Gerrard made 709 appearances for the Reds over a 17-year spell, 12 of which he spent as captain of the Merseyside outfit.

Once he decided to call an end to his career following an 18-month stint at MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy, Gerrard was offered the manager’s role at MK Dons, but he turned it down, stating that he was not ready for such a big jump.

Instead, he has opted to work his way up by beginning his coaching career working with development sides at Liverpool’s academy.

The 36-year-old admitted over the weekend while working as a pundit on BT Sport that his “dream” would be to one day manage Liverpool.

Klopp is in the hotseat at the moment, but he has offered to give Gerrard some of his insight and guidance.

During his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Southampton, Klopp told reporters:

"Everyone in this room knows better than I do he is wonderful guy and it was important to know what Steven wants and he said he wants to be a manager in the future. That's cool.

"From my side I said everything I can do to help him on his way to be the best manager he can be I am ready for this and I'd like to do it. Now he is at the academy it is good for us and for him it is perfect.”
