A large number of Arsenal supporters have expressed their desire for Arsene Wenger to step down as manager, but player Laurent Koscielny is keen to continue working under the Frenchman.

The 67-year-old will come to the end of his current contract in the summer and could potentially call time on a 20-year spell in charge of the North London outfit.

It has not been plain sailing over the years due to numerous failed Premier League title bids and Champions League campaigns.

It has been almost 13 years since the Gunners last lifted the English title, and for that reason, many fans feel that now is the time for a change.

Koscielny, though, thinks that Wenger is still a crucial for the players, and him in particular considering that the boss was responsible for bringing him to the club from Lorient in 2010.

The Frenchman told RMC Sport:

"I want Arsene Wenger to continue. He developed me. I owe him a lot. I think the group is always receptive to Arsene Wenger's message.

"I wish that he extends. I have been under his command for seven years, and I am very respected by him. He gave me that chance to come here. He made me grow as a player and as a man. I owe him a lot for my career."

This season is not quite going to plan for Arsenal as they currently sit 10 points off the pace in the league and are on the brink of Champions League elimination at the last-16 stage.

The team were heavily beaten 5-1 by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last week, which has left them with a mountain to climb ahead of the second leg at the Emirates.
