Leicester City have tabled a contract offer worth about £5million to sign Esteban Cambiasso, who is currently a free agent after leaving Inter Milan, Mirror reports.
The Argentine star made over 50 caps for his national team and has featured for the Serie A side a further 315 times over the last 10 years.
Having only been promoted into the English Premier League, Leicester have made a swoop to sign the defensive midfielder on a two-year deal.
A move is believed to be close as Cambiasso is set to meet club representatives in order to finalize all the details of the potential switch.
His experience is seen as a massive boost to Nigel Pearson’s side with the 33-year-old having already won a host of trophies, including the Italian Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, as well as both league titles in Italy and Spain.
Should the Foxes complete the deal, they may have got themselves one of the shock buys of the window after failed moves by Valencia as well as West Ham United.
