Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes that star striker Christian Benteke could recover in time to play against Chelsea this weekend, according to reports from the Mirror.

Benteke was unavailable for their Capital One Cup 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday and was deemed as a major doubt to face the Blues this coming Saturday.

However, after his first victory with the Reds, Klopp is optimistic that the Belgium international could shake off his injury problem in time to be fit for the game at Stamford Bridge.

“I think Christian will be fit on Saturday," he said. "He had little problems and with our ‘striker situation’ we can’t take a risk.

"Divock played again [tonight] and he did well – he worked really hard. But I think Christian will be back.”

The Bournemouth game did give Klopp another slight injury concern, with Kolo Toure forced off midway through the first half.

“Kolo I think was a hamstring, but I am not sure because I only saw him sitting and so we have to wait for the diagnosis," he added.

“With Daniel, we have to talk about him when he can train and then he will need, I don’t know, two, three, four, five, six or seven days training. That is normal.

“Each footballer needs it and it’s not important how good you are unless you have enough strength to play in this really intensive league.

“There is no pressure from me – I can’t put pressure on him or the doctor or the physiotherapist, I have to wait. And when he is back, he has to train."

Klopp was appointed as the new Liverpool manager following Brendan Rodgers’ sacking, but the German was unable to record his first victory until the Bournemouth result last night.

Another win this weekend against the Blues could spell the end to Jose Mourinho’s managerial stint with the champions, with many seeing the fixture as ‘The Special One’s last hope to save his job.
