Liverpool could be reunited with Xabi Alonso after Real Madrid hinted that they would be open to selling the Spanish midfielder after signing Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, Express reports.
With huge competition for spaces in the middle of the park, the former Reds player-maker could find game time harder to come by if he decides to remain at the club.
A move to bring Alonso back to Anfield is still a possibility after he revealed his love for the side and that some of his greatest moments were in a Liverpool shirt.
He said: “Liverpool was a very important part in my football career. Especially when we played at Anfield, we achieved great things and we had great nights at Anfield.
“There is a passion and atmosphere that comes when you play in England in the Premier League. It’s special and I had the privilege to play for five years for Liverpool, and it’s a really special club.”
There have already been talks between the two teams in the past but with the 32-year-old considered a vital member of the squad back then, he opted to remain in Spain instead.
