Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race for Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin, Daily Star reports.

Schneiderlin was a January target for the Gunners and are now ready to renew their interest with a £12million bid this summer.

But Liverpool are also interested in the French midfielder and along with Saints team-mate Dejan Lovren.

The Reds see Schneiderlin as the perfect foil to Steven Gerrard, providing defensive cover in Brendan Rodgers’ attacking side.

The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in Southampton’s good form this season, and admitted that a move to a Champions League club would be difficult to turn down.

“For my progress and my visibility, it would be better to play for a club who play in the Champions League,” he previously stated.

“I know there is a lot of speculation, but I still have three years on my contract, it does not depend on me.

“We’ll see in the coming weeks.”

It is reported that Rodgers has already open negotiations for England midfielder Adam Lallana, but talks have hit a stumbling block over his hefty price tag.

The Reds are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for their journey in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Southampton, neither need or want to sell their players. They’re all under long term contracts, so expect silly price tags to be put on all players. Because if any club is offered silly money they don’t say no, expect £15 – £18 for Schneiderlin, the same for Lovren.
In my opinion if they keep Pochettino, the stars will stay for one more season, to see what they can achieve after a fantastic second season in the Premiership. 3 – 4 clever signings, they will have a good kitty, the 3 or 4 youngsters waiting in the sidelines, they could possibly push on for 6th possibly 4th.

Players like Ward-Prowse and Shaw should stay as they have years ahead of them and those interested in them (Man Utd) isn’t a step up at all, but players like Lallana needs to leave in order to compete at the highest level. He is 25 turning 26 soon, he doesn’t have many years to prove himself all over again to join a CL club later.
