Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher took the opportunity to praise the club’s new signing Mario Balotelli while also taking a jab at Arsenal man Danny Welbeck, with the pair both costing £16million, Daily Star reports.
Balotelli made his switch to Anfield from Serie A giants AC Milan, while Welbeck left Manchester United to join Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.
Carragaher tweeted: “I think Balotelli has more ability but obviously comes with more baggage than Welbeck.”
The former United striker was forced out by new manager Louis van Gaal after the Dutchman told him he would be considered surplus after the massive loan deal for Radamel Falcao was confirmed.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers also admits to the ability that the 24-year-old Italian can bring to his squad, but remains focus on keeping his off-field antics to a minimum.
He said: “He will make mistakes, but so will everyone else. He’s got wonderful charisma, a presence on the field and a great touch.
“When I brought Fabio Borini to Swansea he told me Mario, a team-mate from Italy Under-21s, was the best player he had ever come across.
“He’s a genuine world-class talent, and when you look at some of the other valuations at the moment £16m is an absolute steal.
“Of course, there are other aspects to the package apart from his ability, but that’s where I have to try and do my work.”
