Michael Owen has revealed that he does not think Arsenal have what it takes to complete for the English Premier League trophy or even a Champions League spot, even with the likes of new signing Alexis Sanchez.
With the former Barcelona attacker joining this season and Mesut Ozil in the previous one, Arsene Wenger has already shown his intent to fight for more awards, even though the last time they won the Premier League was 10 years ago.
Owen told talkSPORTS: “The signing of Sanchez has made everyone sit up and take note. I really do rate him, he’s a top player and it’s a big step in the right direction.
“But, in no particular order, my top four for next season would be Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.”
In addition to Liverpool’s efforts last season, he believes Brendan Rodgers will need make sure his team produce their best performance if they are going to keep up with the new reinforcements the other clubs are bringing in.
He told the club’s official website: “If Liverpool are going to progress again, they probably need to get better again.
“Manchester City won the league, Chelsea have strengthened in a big way. From second to first is a big leap so Liverpool are going to need to be better again and the top-line performers are going to need to play as well, if not better.”
