The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed with his displays in the Bundesliga this season, and manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of adding him to his Liverpool squad in the summer.
Firmino is similar in build and playing style to Reds Brazilian playmaker Phillipe Coutinho, but Rodgers feels his fellow countryman can further strengthen a Liverpool attack that has managed 70 Premier League goals already this season – the most in the division.
Hoffenheim are reportedly looking for around £12million for the talented midfielder, but Liverpool would be willing to match the price tag, especially if they qualify for next seasons Champions League.
Rodgers recently revealed he is targeting signings that would take his improving side to the ‘next level’, with a return to the Champions League looking increasingly likely.
“I think it’s vitally important [we qualify for the Champions League],” said Rodgers.
“For us to go to that next level that’s where we need to be. I took over the team in eighth and that’s what we have been building towards over the last 18 months.
“If we can get into the elite competition, it attracts a different type of player as well. I think it’s very important and hopefully it will be this year.”
