Liverpool and Premier League top scorer Luis Suarez has been named Professional Footballers’ Association ‘Player of the Year’ (PFA) and joins two of his teammates in the Premier League Team of the Year, BBC reports.
“The Premier League is full of really great players and so it is a great honour when these players recognize your work on the pitch,” Suarez said.
Meanwhile Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard was named ‘Young Player of the Year’ as he too joins two of his teammates in the Team of the Year.
Suarez was joined by strike partner Daniel Sturridge and club captain Steven Gerrard, while Hazard was added amongst the likes of Petr Cech and Gary Cahill.
Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure, Southampton’s Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, and Everton’s Seamus Coleman complete the all-star lineup.
Suarez, who started the season with a six match ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic’s arm last year, came out firing and now tops the goal scoring charts with his team also leading in the race for the title.
Suarez added: “I always try my best for the team and it is nice to get awards but really this is for my team-mates and the staff at Liverpool because without their help I wouldn’t have this prize.”
Hazard, who is currently injured, also commented on his achievement by saying, “It’s always good to win awards because it means you’ve had a good season, but I prefer to win things collectively.”
