With a recent loan bid from Everton for Sunderland’s Adam Johnson being rejected, Liverpool could offer a potential swap deal involving Fabio Borini, Express reports.
The proposal from the Toffees was turned down due to the fact that the Black Cats are looking to sell their midfielder in order to clear some space with their finances.
Liverpool are also looking to reinforce their squad in preparation for both their domestic and European competitions, and Brendan Rodgers has recently revealed Johnson to be a potential addition.
The Reds could save some of their transfer budget by offering Borini, who had a great loan spell at the Stadium of Light the previous season, as part of the deal in their efforts to bring the English winger to Anfield.
Should Roberto Martinez fail to meet the demands for a permanent move for the player, it would leave the door open for Rodgers to swoop in and complete the potential swap deal.
