Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has asked Netherlands winger Arjen Robben to join him at Old Trafford, but was turned down after their World Cup third-place victory over Brazil, Daily Mail reports.
Arjen Robben was one of the stars in Holland’s third-place World Cup finish, beating hosts Brazil 3-0 in their last fixture.
And the Dutchman revealed that national team manager Louis van Gaal invited him to join his new Man United side, but Robben turned down the request.
He told Dutch TV NOS: “After the match he asked me to come to Manchester.”
However the Bayern Munich ace is keen to stay with the Bundesliga champions.
“I’m very happy with where I am now. I told [Van Gaal] that.
“Van Gaal is the best coach I’ve had. We’ve got a very special relationship, but I will not make a transfer.
“I’m at the right place at Bayern so that has nothing to do with Van Gaal or United.”
Van Gaal also expressed his desire to bring the 30-year-old, stating: “He is always welcome. But he knows this himself.”
Robben scored three goals and provided one assist during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
