Manchester City have confirmed they have signed Chelsea legend Frank Lampard on loan until January, reports the BBC.
The 36-year-old signed for New York Red Bulls on a two year deal, following his release from Chelsea last month.
But Lampard has agreed a swift return to Premier League football, joining Premier League champions City on a 6 month loan deal.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “From next week, Wednesday, he will start working with our team and he will be with us until January.
“He is working with the squad. He will fight for his position.
“He knows we have a very good team, we have a lot of players in his position. He is one player more,” Pellegrini said following his side’s 5-4 defeat on penalties by Olympiakos in their latest pre-season friendly.
“We have a lot of games particularly with the Champions League – so he’s very important for our team.”
Lampard holds legendary status at Chelsea, having won the Premier League three times, the Champions League, four FA Cups, two League cups and the Europa League.
He also left as the clubs leading goalscorer of all time, with 211 goals in 649 matches.
