Reported Manchester City target Stevan Jovetic has confirmed that he wants to stay in Italy despite being flattered by bigger clubs’ interest from the summer.

Jovetic had offers to leave Fiorentina this summer but turned them down to help his side qualify for the Champions League and the Viola are currently just one point outside of the Champions League places.

Despite confirming that he wanted to stay in Italy, the Montenegro hitman hinted that he did want to play for a bigger club and if Fiorentina do not make the top four this season, that could happen.

Jovetic admitted that moving abroad again would be a new challenge but after spending five years in Italy, it would be easier for him to stay.

Manchester City were widely expected to explore the possibility of signing Jovetic, either in January or next summer, but his latest quotes will have been a blow to Roberto Mancini who seems desperate to improve his underperforming City side.

"I've had offers but I wanted to stay and I did," Jovetic told Sky Sports.

"The president promised to strengthen the squad and fight for the Champions League, and both promises have been kept.

"Do I dream of playing for a bigger club? It's better to say not too much.

"Generally, I do not think too much about what will happen in the future. If something has to happen, it will happen anyway. It's up to me only to work and devote myself to football.

"I've been in Italy for five years and I've learned the language and local habits. Even if going abroad would be a new challenge, I would like to stay in Italy.
