Barcelona looks to have finalized their transfer for Ivan Rakitic, blowing Manchester United and Liverpool’s chances of signing the Sevilla captain, talkSPORT reports.
The Croatian international was the star of a Sevilla side that went on to win the Europa League trophy, linking him with many of Europe’s top clubs.
However it seems Rakitic is set for a move to Barcelona as the Catalan club look to replace the departing Cesc Fabregas, who seems destined to return to the English Premier League.
Reports from Spain claimed that Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta and vice president Javier Faus were looking to complete the deal for the highly-rated midfielder.
Both Man United and Liverpool were keen to make a move for the midfielder, but will now be forced to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
Rakitic is currently with the Croatia national squad preparing for the 2014 World Cup, with their first game the tournament opener against hosts Brazil.
The 26-year-old scored an impressive 15 goals and assisting another 17 in all competitions last season.
