Manchester United are looking to add Feyenoord’s Stefan de Vrij to their growing number of signings, writes the Sunday Express.
Following the arrival of Southampton’s Luke Shaw, it doesn’t sound like new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is done with strengthening of United’s back four as he targets the Netherlands centre-back.
It had been reported that the 22-year-old, who has played in all three of the Netherlands’ World Cup games so far, had struck a verbal agreement with Serie A outfit Lazio. However, once van Gaal made known his interest, Lazio accepted it would be hard to compete with the Premier League side for the defender’s signature, especially given that van Gaal is currently managing the player at international level.
The fee for de Vrij, who made 32 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord last season, will be in the region of £8million, however, no deal can be finalised until the Netherlands’ World Cup is over.
