Manchester United and Liverpool could be set to step up their pursuits of Marco Reus, with reports from The Express indicating that Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a replacement for the attacker.

The bitter Premier League rivals have both been linked with the 25-year-old in recent weeks, with speculation suggesting that he may be the next big name player to leave the Westfalenstadion.

This talk has been further buoyed by Reus’ decision to reject a new contract recently, which could see him leave for around £30m due to a release clause in his current deal.

Dortmund are said to be desperate to keep their man, but Roma’s Serbian sensation Adem Ljajic is being lined up for a move which could free up Reus.

United have been most heavily linked with the versatile forward, with Louis van Gaal rumoured to be a fan of him.

The Red Devils have cash to spend, and are known to be keen to get big names through the door in a bid to put the misery of last season behind them.

Liverpool are also keen amid suggestions that Brendan Rodgers wants a marquee signing to replace Luis Suarez.
