AS Roma have slapped on a massive £79million fee on Manchester United target Kevin Strootman, Daily Mail reports.
United boss Louis van Gaal is extremely keen on bringing the Dutch midfielder to Old Trafford, even if the Roma star is currently out with a knee injury.
Van Gaal had the opportunity to coach the 24-year-old during his time in charge of the Holland national team, and has been impressed by his performances.
However Roma manager Rudi Garcia has stated his intentions on keeping Strootman at the Stadio Olimpico, wishing to ward off any interest by slapping on a huge £79million price tag.
“What can I say about the rumours (about Strootman joining United)…” Garcia said after his side’s 3-2 loss to the Red Devils.
“Maybe after a three-digit offer (i.e. 100 million euros), then we will sit down and think about it.”
Strootman was not involved in the fixture against United, but according to his manager is recovering well from the knee injury he picked up back in March.
“Kevin is following a normal recovery programme. He is fine. He will start running soon,” Garcia said.
