Manchester United will turn their attentions to former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, if their move for Juventus star Arturo Vidal collapses, according to the Express.
Louis van Gaal is keen to complete a £40million move for the Chilean midfielder before the Premier League kicks off next week, despite holding concerns over Vidal’s injured knee.
The deal has taken longer to complete than expected, and Van Gaal has identified Barcelona’s Song as the man to turn to should the move collapse.
Juventus have given Manchester United one week to finalise the move for the 27-year-old, or risk missing out completely – and reports in Italy suggest the club have earmarked Song just in case.
United remain confident of tying up their deal for Vidal however, having offered the midfielder a contract worth a staggering £182,000 a week.
Song meanwhile, has been told he can leave the Nou Camp this summer for a fee of £20million.
The Cameroon international has struggled to hold down a regular first team place since signing from Arsenal two years ago, and is reportedly keen on returning to the Premier League.
