Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that striker Stevan Jovetic will not leave the Etihad this summer, Daily Star reports.
Serie A side Inter Milan were keen on bringing Jovetic back to Italy, but their hopes have been dashed with Pellegrini looking to keep the 24-year-old.
The former Fiorentina star has been impressive during the club’s pre-season tour in the USA, scoring two goals in City’s 5-1 win over AC Milan.
The Citizens will have Alvaro Negredo out for two months with a broken leg, giving Jovetic the opportunity to live up to his £22million price tag.
Pellegrini said: “Stevan is working well with us. He is a very important player for our team.
“Maybe there are a lot of rumours about his future but Stevan will stay with us here.”
Man City are usually extremely busy in the transfer market, but after the sanctions from UEFA for breaching the Financial Fair Play regulations, the Sky Blues’ spending power has been limited.
However Pellegrini is still confident of success.
“I am confident we have a strong enough squad to win the title again,” he said.
“We have a new target of trying to do well in the Champions League as well as winning the Premier League again. We just want to continue winning.”
