Manchester City beat West Ham 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium to secure the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool.
City needed just a draw to be confirmed as champions for the second time in three years, but it was plain sailing for Manuel Pellegrini’s side with Liverpool leaving their response too late at Anfield against Newcastle.
Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany grabbed the goals as West Ham put up a fight but could not prevent the inevitable.
Liverpool went 1-0 down early on at home to Newcaslte but equalised in the second half thanks to Daniel Agger and went in front after Daniel Sturridge poked home.
The Reds realistically threw the title away at Crystal Palace last week when they gave up a three goal lead to draw at Selhurst Park, with City going on to thump Aston Villa a week later.
Pellegrini has masterminded the double in his first season in English football after winning the Capital One Cup earlier this year.
