Yaya Toure has revealed that he would feel “angry” if he left Manchester City to join a Chinese Super League club.

At the age of 33, the midfielder could be looking to wind down his career, but the man himself has insisted that he intends to keep playing at the top level for a few more years.

The staggering salaries on offer in the Far East has called into question why players are opting to abandon more well-established leagues to make the jump.

The Mirror reports that Toure recently rejected £430,000 a week from a Chinese club, which is almost double what he is earning at the Etihad Stadium, thought to be £230,000 per week.

The former Ivory Coast international had a difficult first half of the season when he was kept out of the City team by manager Pep Guardiola.

The coach refused to welcome the midfielder back into the fold until his agent Dimitri Seluk apologised for his public criticism of the Spaniard.

Toure said sorry on his representative’s behalf and now features regularly in City’s midfield, making 11 Premier League appearances and scoring three goals.

It is unclear where his future lies when his contract expires at the end of the season, but Toure has claimed that he does not want to move far if City decide to part company.

The Mirror quotes Toure as saying:

“It’s my idea to stay in England, I always say that if I went to China I would end up feeling angry there. Do you play football because you love football - or do you play because you want to make money? What’s the purpose?

“Me, I just want to play football because I enjoy it, I love playing. I enjoy helping my teammates, I enjoy playing against the big players and teams.”
