Manchester United looks to be in for another transfer setback after one of their targets, Ezequiel Garay, has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich, Daily Star reports.
Ever since the departure of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, Louis van Gaal was given the task of finding appropriate reinforcements to fill the defensive role but will probably need to erase the Argentine out of his list.
It is believed that Bayern completed the signing of Garay for £10 million, even though he had a £15 million release clause on his contract.
With only a year left on his current deal, it is said that Benfica were open to decreasing the fee for the centre back making the move to Germany a possibility.
The former Real Madrid defender had a great season, lifting the Portuguese league trophy for the first time in his career this previous season.
He will complete his move to join Pep Guardiola after the World Cup and will need to prove his worth against a star studded back line, consisting of Dante, Jerome Boateng, and Holger Badstuber.
United now have to look else where for defensive reinforcements with rumours arising that Van Gaal is chasing Dutch defender Bruno Martins Indi as well as Barcelona’s Alex Song, who has been deployed as a centre back for Barcelona.
