Manchester United will need to find a replacement for outgoing Rio Ferdinand, and are considering Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels as the perfect candidate, Metro reveals.
United, who also lost captain Nemanja Vidic to Inter at the end of the season, will need to swiftly replace the defensive duo who have been performing at the top level for quite some time before their recent decline in form.
Even though the Red Devils haven’t officially appointed a new manager, it is believed that the board are still targeting Hummels in hopes of bringing him to Old Trafford in the very near future.
The 25-year-old defender was a solid player for his side last season when they reached the UEFA Champions League final despite losing out to league rivals Bayern Munich.
Already part of the German national set up, the United target has a lot of experience and can easily fit into the much needed role at the heart of their defence, along the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Jonny Evans.
With the World Cup in Brazil getting closer, Man United will surely want to get the deal finalized before Hummels turns his attentions elsewhere.
