Manchester United are currently believed to be undergoing talks to sign Nigel De Jong from AC Milan to add some extra strength to their midfield, Metro reports.
The 29-year-old defensive midfielder was a strong performer during the World Cup and is said to be interested in working with Louis van Gaal once again at United.
He also received praise from his manager during the Netherlands close fought 3-2 victory over Australia in Brazil by saying: “I don’t like singling out players, but Nigel de Jong was inspirational.”
An initial fee of £8million looks to be on the table in bids for Van Gaal to sign the Serie A star, who is also a former Manchester City player.
With Michael Carrick out with an injury, the 62-year-old manager is out of options for a more defence-minded midfielder to work alongside new signing Ander Herrera.
Arturo Vidal is another potential target, but with negotiations being stalled, a move for De Jong could be the more sensible choice.
