Ex Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has claimed that Louis van Gaal is the best manager he’s ever played for, keeping in mind that he also played under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, Mirror reports.

The former shot stopper turned Ajax Director believes that van Gaal is the firm favourite to lead the Red Devils next season.

The Dutch keeper, who played under van Gaal during his time at Ajax, had nothing but praise for his fellow countryman as the search for a David Moyes’ replacement continues.

Van der Sar said: “I will say more about Louis and United once his appointment his official

“But I have made it clear here before that Louis van Gaal is the best manager I have ever played for.”

Sources report that Manchester United are already in talks with the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager, who is currently preparing to lead the Dutch national team to the World Cup in Brazil in seven weeks time.

However, agreements on his new job need to be concluded before the start of his World Cup training sessions on May 6, as the Royal Dutch Football Federation want their manager to only be focused on the national team.
