Manchester United have reportedly made a breakthrough in their chase for £20million Ajax defender Daley Blind, according to the Daily Mail.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal coached the Dutch star during the Netherlands’ World Cup third place finish, and has been extremely keen to bring Blind to Old Trafford this summer.
United are now confident a £20million deal will be struck before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Ajax boss Frank de Boer has already revealed he is open to offloading the versatile centre-back, stating: “If he goes to a big club then he has definitely deserved it.
“But I think it would be better if he stays one year. Last year was a good year for him but I think he can improve a lot with us.
“If a club comes along with a lot of money it is almost impossible to say no. But we won’t let him go for free that is for sure.
Blind went on to add: “I am happy here in Amsterdam. But if there comes another club I will have to think about it and then we will see. I will think about my options.”
Man United are also looking at Argentina defender Marcos Rojo as an alternative in their search for defensive reinforcements.
