Chelsea are ready to receive a £40m offer from Manchester United for unsettled Spanish playmaker Juan Mata, the Daily Mail reports.
Jose Mourinho is willing to let go of the former two time Chelsea player of the season if their valuation is met, and David Moyes believes this can be done if the club cash out £40m.
However there are complications to a deal being struck with Chelsea still interested in United’s Wayne Rooney, but the striker is not for sale.
The Red Devils are in need of a fresh face in their lineup, having lost for the seventh time this year losing 3-1 to Mourinho’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Ever since returning to the Premier League, Mourinho has been unimpressed by the World Cup and European Championship winner.
With only 11 Premier League starts this season, Mata, 25, has found it extremely difficult to break the midfield trio of Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Willian. His last appearance in the Premier League was against Southampton on New Year ’s Day, when the he reacted angrily after being subbed off early in the second half.
Mata’s concern is that limited playing time could hamper his chances of making it to this year’s World Cup, and feels a move away from Stamford Bridge is his best option.
Even though not featuring regularly, Mata remains a popular figure amongst the players and the fans. Mourinho has also claimed he wants the Spaniard to stay, but didn’t rule out the possibility of a departure.
Chelsea are in good form, winning five games on the trot and only two points off leaders Arsenal.
