Louis van Gaal has come out to give Wilfried Zaha the choice of adapting to the new style of play or risk being sold away as the new manager prepares his team for the upcoming season, Daily Star reports.
The Manchester United boss played him in a striker’s position instead of his more preferred winger role as the Dutchman tries to work out all the aspects of his new 3-5-2 formation.
Before the match, Van Gaal stated that Zaha will get a chance to prove himself against Inter Milan where he made his first appearances of the pre-season tour.
“He will play in the second-half in the strikers’ position,” said Van Gaal.
“When we play this system he has to play as a striker, otherwise he cannot play.
“Ashley Young is a winger, but he is another type who can play wing-back and he did very well (in a 3-2 friendly win) against Roma.
“He can play left and right side, but we shall see.
“He can do the job. He believes me and he is now performing well.”
