Manchester United are reportedly ready to trigger the £48 million release clause for Atletico Madrid’s Koke in order to begin negotiations for a switch to England, Daily Star reports.
With £200 million to spend, Louis van Gaal claims to not be bothered by the huge clause and is ready to begin spending so that he can bring the hugely under performing United squad back to the top.
Koke has had a sensational season and at age of just 22, being a big part of the squad that saw Diego Simeone lift his side’s first La Liga trophy after 18 long years.
Apart from being crowned Spanish champions, the midfielder was called up by Spain coach Vincente del Bosque’s as part of the national set up, but his place in Brazil is not confirmed as he is currently only on the 30-man provisional squad.
He rose through his club’s youth system, so the Red Devils will have to try their hardest to lure him away from his childhood team ever since he joined their academy at the age of eight.
Van Gaal will want to finalize the deal before the start of the World Cup because if Koke gets a place in the final squad and performs well, it could cause his price tag to sky rocket.
