Manchester United’s Juan Mata, who joined for a record £37.1 million, has promised to do better after being given the chance to play in his favourite number 10 role, Daily Mail reports.
He told United’s official website that he was doing fine adapting to his new team mates over the past season and is now looking to add to his goal tally.
“I scored six goals last year and I am looking forward to hopefully do it again and again this season.”
“We had changed managers but didn’t get the results. But we are starting a new season with a new manager and we aim to put the club back where it deserves to be.
“Things are changing and everyone is finding their new role in the team. That includes me.”
The 26-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder mentioned earlier during the USA tour, “If I play behind the two strikers I feel comfortable”.
“I have played on the left or right but my best season was when I played in that position under Rafa Benitez for Chelsea. I will try my best, during the season hopefully we can play good football and I can do assists and score goals because that is what I have to do.”
Louis van Gaal is believed to prefer Mata to play right behind striking duo Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, with his time struggling on the flanks looking likely to come to an end.
