Manchester United striker Robin van Persie came out to play down any rumours regarding his career threatening knee operation, which many believe was the reason Louis van Gaal stepped up the chase for Radamel Falcao, Daily Star reports.
The 31-year-old, who spoke before his international friendly against Italy, came out to reveal the news as false, highlighted it ‘total nonsense’.
Van Persie said: “I am impressed that people have the imagination to make something like that up.
“I do not know where it comes from and can say with my hand on my heart that I’m not in a hospital the next time to operate.”
With news of the Dutchman needing surgery breaking out just ahead of deadline day, many assumed that the acquisision of Falcao was down to the fact United were on the verge of having no attackers left.
Both Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck has now left the club, leaving the Red Devils with three world class forwards, all of whom are very likely to start alongside one another.
