Manchester United are set to offer striker Wayne Rooney a massive new contract in order to keep him at the club, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Rooney has been one of, if not the only player to stand up and be counted this season as United have slumped to mid table mediocrity under new boss David Moyes.

The England forward wanted out of the club in the summer but was denied a move by then-new boss Moyes despite hefty bids from both Chelsea and Arsenal.

It appears that Rooney is now happy at Old Trafford despite the slow start to the season and the 28 year old could be offered a whopping new deal worth around £50million in the new year.

With Robin van Persie out for at least a month, Rooney will continue to be the main man under Moyes but by the time the Dutchman is back a number of first team players may well have left.

The likes of Nani, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley and Antonio Valencia have not impressed the new manager and so if the right bid comes in this winter, they will be off.
