Manchester United have been hit with another injury to Wayne Rooney after the Englishman pulled out of training, Mirror reports.
The striker has just recently recovered from a toe injury obtained before United’s Champion’s League exit to Bayern Munich, but may now miss this weekend’s clash against Sunderland with a new injury.
Rooney left the Carrington training ground and will undergo scans to evaluate the extent of the problem, but reports suggest that the 28-year-old only has a stomach bug and was ordered by caretaker boss Ryan Giggs to stay away from team-mates.
The Englishman has been hit by niggling injuries all season, and the Red Devils have suffered during his absences.
Rooney had to play in the Champions League second leg after being injected with pain-killers, showcasing United’s reliance on the striker.
The medical staff will need to assess the former Everton player’s problem before their last game at Old Trafford this season.
However Man United have practically nothing left to play for, and may be left out of the squad by Giggs to guarantee Rooney’s participation in this year’s World Cup.
England boss Roy Hodgson will be naming the final 23-man squad for Brazil on May 12.
