Manchester City slumped out of the Champions League at the group stages for the second season in a row.

Despite a gallant performance in the 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium last night, the result sees Mancini’s side remain bottom of Group D and facing a battle to make third place to ensure entry into the Europa League.

The Citizens were the dominant side throughout and despite going down to a Karim Benzema strike, levelled through a Sergio Aguero penalty 16 minutes from time.

There was no grand-stand finish at the Etihad Stadium this time around; however despite failing to take City through to the knock-out stages once again, Mancini remains bullish and doesn’t fear for his job:

“I don’t have fear for this. Everyone here knows football.

“The season is long. You have the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League.

“If we think we can win the Champions League after only two years we are crazy.

“Chelsea tried to win it for 10 years and in their best moment they didn’t win. We need to be patient for this; we need to improve our team.” (Sun)
