Mark Hughes is angered by the Tottenham Hotspur's winning goal last Sunday, believing the North London outfit should have been penalised in the build up to Jermain Defoe's goal.

The Welshman was critical of referee Phil Dowd, for not spotting what he felt was an off the ball infringement on his team during Spurs' breakaway attack, which secured them a 2-1 victory.

Hughes told London24: “For the second we are very disappointed with the referee. In that build up, there was a clear foul on Esteban Granero, then an even more blatant foul on Nedum Onouha.

“As he is running back towards his goal he gets taken out, but the referee didn’t think it warranted a free kick.”

The former Manchester City boss believed the decision cost the R’s a deserved point at White Hart Lane after an excellent first half performance saw them leading at the break.

“We’re scratching our heads somewhat as to how we didn’t get something out of the game. I thought our performance from start to finish was excellent. We were outstanding in the first half and totally dominated,” he added.
