Roberto Martinez has told Diego Costa to show some respect after disrespecting Everton defender Seamus Coleman.

The former Atletico Madrid striker was seen taunting Coleman after the Irish defender turned Eden Hazard’s cross into his own net.

It prompted an angry reaction from many of the Toffees players, including goalkeeper Tim Howard who was booked for his showdown with the £32 million striker.

Martinez said: “There are certain foreign players who come to the Premier League who need to understand the ethics and the culture.

“The behaviour in the British game is unique. The last thing you want to see is disrespect from a player to another player and I am sure he will learn that very quickly.

“There is a real professionalism and respect in the league so you can understand why the players weren’t happy with that, in the same way as trying to buy free kicks with the way he plays.”

Costa has already impressed adoring fans since his move from La Liga having already found the back of the net on four occasions – helping Chelsea to top of the league ahead of the international break.
