Former Arsenal defender Paul Merson believes Arsene Wenger has a big job lined-up for next season if he leaves the Gunners, he's quoted as saying by Metro.

What's the word?

After Tuesday's 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, there is a growing consensus that Arsene Wenger will walk this summer but the Frenchman made it abundantly clear yesterday that he would not retire and would manage elsewhere.

With Wenger's contract due to expire at the end of the season and a growing majority of fans wanting him to move on this summer, the likelihood is that the 67-year-old will call time in a spell in North London that's spanned over two-decades.

It won't be his last job in football though, which leaves Arsenal facing the possibility of seeing their most successful ever manager enjoy better form elsewhere- and Merson believes he already has a deal on the table.

What was said?

Quoted by Metro, Paul Merson believes Wenger has already received a big offer as he wouldn't have made the comments he did yesterday if an approach hadn't already been made.

‘He’s put it into Arsenal’s court now by saying “I’ll be managing anyway” and he will.'

‘There’s no way his agent, if he’s got an agent, wouldn’t have been told he’s got a job somewhere. Because you wouldn’t turn around and say what he’s just said. You couldn’t, because that could embarrass you quite a lot if you turn around and go “Well I’ll definitely be managing next season”.

‘You know he’s been told he’s got a job next season and I bet you a bottom dollar it’ll be a big job. It’ll be a big job.’

Where could he go?

A number of possibilities could occur if Arsene Wenger leaves Arsenal this summer, with the French boss having been consistently linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and England previously. However, all three jobs currently look unobtainable.

After a slow start to life in Paris, Unai Emery has made a positive impression by securing a 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League whilst Zinedine Zidane lifted Europe's most prestigious title last season and currently sits top of La Liga.

England, meanwhile, are only a few months into their tenure under Gareth Southgate and are unlikely to make a change. However, jobs at Barcelona and Juventus could open-up this summer and mega-rich Chinese clubs could also swoop.
